Sounds Of Lockdown

The Angels kept going on Zoom during the pandemic...

"Back in April and May 2020 when lockdown was still relatively novel but Zoom rehearsals were starting to send us all round the bend, I gave The Angels two home-recording challenges. I sent instructional mp3s asking them to choose three notes and record themselves singing them in a specified rhythm (they could also improvise a bit if they wanted to.) They sent me their recordings and I edited them and mixed them down into whatever came together. It was like doing a massive jigsaw with no idea of what it's meant to look like when it's finished... I think the two tracks we created definitely capture the change in mood over the few weeks between them - from spaced out weirdy dreamlike in Avant Gardian Angels (We Can't Go Out), to underlying derangement in STAY AT HOME!!!"

- Suzy (MD/Arranger/Piano Player)

As well as performing live, The Angels often provide vocals for theatre productions, music videos and film scores.

Edie's War

The Plough Arts Centre June 2022

Inspired by the diaries of Edith Appleton, OBE, who left Crediton in 1914 to join an elite group of nurses on the front line in WW1, Edie’s War tells her very personal story of caring for soldiers who were fighting an entirely new type of war – one where the horrors of the trenches, gas attacks and shelling had devastating effect.
